Piaggio Plans To Launch The First Scooter To Sport Fuel Injection: Typhoon

Piaggio made a difference in the scooter revolution in India with its 125 cc Vespa , has planned to step up its game with the 150 cc Typhoon to the Indian Market. Vespa had a great welcome into the market sales, though its prices was high when compared to other competitors. It has the iconic look and premium feel which other competitors in the game lacked in.

It is expected that the company will be bringing its next offering, the Typhoon in mid, 2013. the typhoon will be featuring a 150cc engine borrowed from Piaggio's Fly. This mod is specially for the Indian Market, whereas, Typhoon in the International market sports the same 125cc as of in the Vespa.

It is the first scooter in India to sport a MPFI Fuel Injection System. The Typhoon churns out 11.5 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 11.5 Nm of torque at 600 rpm. Fuel Efficiency figure of 32kmpl, thanks to the CVT Automatic Gearbox. A claimed topspeed of 100 kmph has been recorded. Fuel Tank is big enough to hold upto 7 litres. The front centrally placed headlamps and broad  tires makes a unique statement and very much appealing to the youngsters. It also features a 200mm disc brake at the front with Telescopic forks and a drum brake at the rear with an aluminium swing arm are worth mentioning. After all, the old-fashioned speedometer with fuel gauge feels kinda boring. But still this would definitely break news for the scooter segment in this sporty new year.

It is expected to be in a price bracket of 85,000 to 90,000 INR (ex-showroom). This is definitely gonna be a show stopper with its unique design to the country and would raise the market share for Piaggio just has how Vespa helped them in 2012.

The All New 2012 Apache RTR 180 ABS

The All New 2012 Apache RTR 180 ABS

Previously we had a teaser pic of the upcoming new Apache RTR from TVS and found it very interesting and it made our minds to google up the whole internet for more information about it, even we made up that it would be the 200cc or 250cc version of the RTR... And finally we have some spied pics of the new RTR being posted in www.iambiker.com... With a bit of a disappointment, the new avatar is just a Refreshment of the older APACHE RTR 180 ABS with makeover done to the headlight part, while few parts get the carbon fiber looks, and of course, a new sticker job... It surely does lives up to its teaser tag “New Beast, Same Bloodline”... The specs still remains to be the same as that of the older ABS version of the APACHE RTR 180...

[Note to TVS research Engineers: just adding around stupid POWER RANGER kinda gadgets all around the bike makes it much funkier, rather it disappoints many, sadly am one among them :p, yet am still happy with my RTR 180 ABS... Just try to bring up some difference in the engine specifications that would make us feel good (:  ]

Hyundai i45 seen testing

Hyundai i45 seen testing

Two new Hyundai cars have been caught being tested on the Chennai – Bangalore highway. While one car was heavily camouflaged and is speculated to be the next generation Elantra (also known as Avante or Verna RB), the other car was bare naked revealing the ‘i45’ badge at the rear.

Hyundai i45:

The i45 is the Hyundai Sonata successor in international markets. The i45 test mule had GDI badge at the rear which indicates that Hyundai may use the 2.4 litre petrol engine that produces 198 hp of maximum power at 6,300 rpm and 250 Nm of maximum torque at 4250 rpm. The engine could be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The other option could be to use the 2.2 litre CRDi engine doing duty in Hyundai Santa Fe that produces 197 bhp of maximum power at 4,000 rpm and 420 Nm of maximum torque at 1800-2500 rpm.

It will be interesting to see what name it chooses to go with: whether it retains the i45 badge since the other cars with i prefix have done or it sticks with Hyundai Sonata that didn’t catch Indians’ fancy but is the name of choice for international markets.
The i45 will likely take on Honda Accord, Nissan Teana and Toyota Camry in India. And for once, Hyundai might have a worthy competitor, particularly if it prices the i45 slightly below the rivals.
The new Hyundai Sonata/i45 was first showcased at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. The car introduced the ‘Fluidic sculpture’ design language of Hyundai. The fluidic sculpture was conceived by the Hyundai designers based on the interplay of fluid elements on hard structures to create an illusion of constant movement to the onlooker. The fluidic sculpture is now the Korean car maker’s future design identity.
Safety features of the Sonata sold in forei markets include 6 airbags, 4-wheel disc brakes, ABS with BA (Brake Assist), ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). In-car entertainment and navigation equipments include a touch screen, Bluetooth streaming audio capability, 6.5 inch WVGA touch screen, 8GB of flash memory and sound system besides auxiliary inputs/iPod/USB ports. We expect the India-bound Sonata to have all these goodies.

The 2011 Hyundai Elantra:

The 2011 Hyundai Avante (Verna RB) too was caught testing alongside i45. It will fill the void left in the D-segment by the discontinued Hyundai Elantra in the company’s portfolio in India.

Hyundai’s new Avante will compete with Toyota Corolla Altis and Honda Civic.

ABS Technology in TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS

ABS Technology in TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS

Automobile markets have been witnessing a lot more change than one could expect. Everyday there is some new innovation in the world of two wheelers. No company wants to lack behind in these changing times. Thus, TVS has come up with ABS technology in its Apache RTR 180.

TVS has introduced Anti-lock Braking System on its flagship product, the Apache RTR 180.  The company has given its premium segment offering formidable stopping power with ABS technology which significantly improves braking and is a prominent safety measure often found on all modern-day cars.

Jointly developed by TVS along with Continental Corporation, the ABS system prevents the brakes from locking under emergency situations and at the same time improves overall braking performance by reducing stopping distance and time in all weather conditions like dry or wet, thus helping in improving the overall safety of the rider. With the ABS technology, an average rider will have 10-25 per cent quicker stopping distance on dry roads and 20-30 per cent on wet roads. Whereas, the professionals will be able to achieve 16 percent quicker stopping distance on wet roads.
Speaking of safety, Apache RTR 180 ABS also sports another safety feature termed as Rear Wheel lift-off protection (RLP). The main aim of this RLP feature is to prevent the rear wheel from lifting off the road in a panic braking condition. RLP is smart way to protect bikers because it senses the rear wheel lifting and immediately releases the front brake pressure for a fraction. Thus the rear wheel always sticks to the ground. Bikers also have an option to switch ABS on/off according to their wish. With maximum power of 17bhp @ 8500rpm, the Apache churns out 15.5Nm of torque at 6500 rpm and delivers upto 44-45 kmpl of mileage. Available only in glittering white colour and tubeless tyres, the bike will be sold via select few dealerships across the country. One thing is for sure that ABS technology will reduce the number of accidents. The Indian motorcycle market is ever developing and we will see lot of bikes come up with ABS and safety features anytime soon.

Basic Bike Maintenance Tips

For all the newbies, here are the Tips for maintaining your bike for last longing performance. Hope this helps you.

  • Regularly check tyre condition and air pressure. Optimum air pressure in the tyres of the bike is important for maximum road grip, stability, riding comfort and longevity of the tyres.
  • While under-inflated tyres wear unevenly, adversely affect handling, and more likely to fail from being overheated, over inflated tyres make the motorcycle ride more harshly, and more prone to damage from surface hazards, and wear unevenly.
  • Check your tyres for cuts and scrapes on your tires, which could cause a blowout. Also check the tyre treads once a week and have the wheels balanced and the alignment checked if the wear is uneven.
  • Engine oil plays an important role in ensuring smooth operation and maintenance of the bike and maintaining a correct engine oil level is important. Check engine oil level each day before operating the two–wheeler. Oil level should be between upper and lower marks. Top up engine oil if required. Check for oil leakage.
  • Clean the two-wheeler body surface regularly to maintain the surface finish. Before cleaning the motorcycle, ensure that the ignition switch unit, H.T. Coil and silencer are covered using plastic sheets.
  • Clean the motorcycle using low-pressure water. All painted surfaces should be washed only with water, as kerosene or detergent will damage the paint.
  • The motorcycle battery needs periodical maintenance to ensure a long and trouble free life. Check the electrolyte level against the top and bottom markings on the battery shell. Always top up with distilled water whenever required.
  • Check for any leakage from battery. It should be clean and free from any leakages. In case of non-use of motorcycle, battery should be kept fully charged and electrolyte level should be at Top mark.
  • Clean spark plug regularly. Every 750 km for two-stroke bike and every 1,500 km for four-stroke bike. Clean spark points (electrodes) with emery paper.
  • Keep carburettor clean. Every 1500 km, clean out the carburettor float chamber and other parts. Clean jets by forcing compressed air through them.
  • Keep both brakes properly spaced. Keeping them too tight (too urgent), or too loose (too late) is dangerous. Brakes should be tightened as per the rider’s personal style and requirement.
  • Check cables regularly for kinks, bends and frayed ends. Especially check ends. If one or more strands appear broken, replace immediately.
  • Always ensure that the tax is paid and Insurance cover (Insurance policy) is within validity period. Keep Tax Receipt and Insurance policy at home and keep xerox copy in bike.

Some Facts about Castrol Power 1 Racing
The high speed motion of components within a bike?s gearbox tends to shear lubricant, this can lead to viscosity loss, internal drag and friction which will ultimately damage the engine, clutch and gears. Castrol Power 1 Racing uses special viscosity modifiers that ensure reduced internal drag and friction, thereby delivering better acceleration performance.

Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T
Ultimate Performance for Extreme Riding
Castrol Power 1 Racing is a fully synthetic 4 stroke engine oil. It enhances a 4 stroke bike engine?s performance by enabling it to deliver increased engine acceleration and power right up to maximum rpm.

Castrol Power 1 Racing incorporates race derived technology developed by Castrol while working with the world?s leading racing teams for over five decades. Its unique formulation ensures maximum engine performance without sacrificing engine durability, thus giving a significant benefit over conventional 4 stroke engine oils. It?s fully synthetic formulation also ensures low volatility, helping to reduce oil consumption compared to mineral engine oils.

High Performance delivered
0 to 155 mph full throttle acceleration using a Castrol in-house acceleration test on a 600 cc Super Sport Engine showed that a bike lubricated with Power 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 can be up to 4 bike lengths ahead of one using the ordinary mineral oil ( 20W-50) over 1.8 km.

The Bike Lengths Advantage - 600cc Super Sport Acceleration Test

Two 600cc super sport engines when subjected to 0-155 mph full throttle acceleration using Castrol?s in-house 'Acceleration test' showed that the bike lubricated with Power 1 Racing 10W-40 can be upto 4 bike lengths ahead of the one using ordinary mineral oil (20W-50) over 1.8 km.

Clutch Slippage Test

The Castrol Clutch Test measures the clutch slippage under high load on a high performance motorcycle engine. Castrol Power 1 Racing outperforms competitor mineral oils, preventing slip and protecting the clutch components under the most severe riding conditions.

The ideal four-stroke motorcycle oil has to be formulated very carefully to operate at optimum levels in all three of these different engine zones:

THE ENGINE ZONE: the huge pressures of heat, compression and combustion deposits.

THE CLUTCH ZONE: the need for the ideal balance between slip and grip.

THE GEARBOX ZONE: the need to combat shear, wear and noise.

The combination of these three zones in motorcycle engines brings the need for a special oil. Castrol Trizone is unique oil technology that answers the needs of all three critical zones. Trizone represents the 21st Century approach to four-stroke motorcycle oils and is specifically aimed at a very high stress and specialised world of mechanics.
